Asslam o Alaikum
I was just reading some news on Pakistani channel, and it triggered a thought.
It seems that the society in general and governance system in particular are heading towards a bottomless pit, in a snowballing manner. Every new day something goes wrong. As an individual with very limited time and resources, what steps can I take to help neutralize or at least slowdown this downward fall.
Hope you can share your vision in this regard.
Wassalam,

Dear Brother
Wa alaikum us salam wa Rahmatullah
It is a pleasure to have a contact with you after long time. How is the life going on? What about your parents? How are the studies going on? Please keep me posted about your progress. Pay my salam to your father.
You are right about the conditions of Pakistan but still we can do something for our brothers and sisters there despite of our limited resources:
1. Every night has a dawn. In the history, we see that many nations have faced conditions even worse than the present-day Pakistan but now they are in excellent conditions. For example, read the history of the first two world wars. You will feel that Pakistanis are in a much better condition than Europeans of 1940s. If they are in better condition now, we shall also be much better. We have to wait for turn of cycle and convey this message to our brothers and sisters in Pakistan. See the following books:
2. Although, we are facing a crisis of leadership but we can still search for good people and prepare them for future leadership. The objective of this Islamic Studies Program is to do so. Al-Hamdulillah, we are receiving an excellent response from people and they are gathered in this way. If you are interested, you can join us in this mission.
3. According to a story, hundreds of fishes were thrown by waves on a coast. A little child was standing there. He caught one fish and threw it back into the sea and then the second and then ….. An aged person was watching him. He said: “You cannot make a big difference as there are hundreds of fishes dying.” The child replied: “Yes, it will not be a big difference for me, but it will be a big difference for the fish I threw in the water.” The aged person agreed and joined the child. So if our resources are limited, we can still help a few brothers and sisters in Pakistan to improve their lives. It will make a big difference in their lives.
4. Avoid watching news as they portray only a negative picture of the world. There is a concept called “news value” in mass communication which means that bad news carry greater news value so they get more place on media. Due to this reason, negative news are spread through the media while positive news are ignored. See the following link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/News_values
Hundreds of thousands of people are doing good and positive work in Pakistan but it never appears on media as it carries less news value and does not attract viewers. We should highlight positive works in our media communications.
There are many other things we can do and we can discuss it further if you plan to join us as mentioned in No. 2.
Wassalam
